Tempe Union High School District celebrates community support and holiday initiatives

The Tempe Union High School District (TUHSD) Governing Board held a significant meeting on December 19, 2024, highlighting community engagement and student achievements as the holiday season approaches.

One of the standout moments was the recognition of the students' initiative to express gratitude throughout the district. Board member Hodge noted the uplifting messages chalked along school pathways, thanking bus drivers and janitors, which fostered a sense of community and appreciation among students and staff. Vice President James celebrated the artistic accomplishments of students from Marcos de Niza High School, who collaborated with renowned local artist La Morena to create a mural displayed at the Phoenix Art Museum. In terms of community support, the board reported substantial donations to various schools, including $3,000 from the Corona Basketball Booster Club and a baseball scoreboard valued at nearly $30,000 from the Desert Vista Baseball Club. Additionally, the meeting featured a shout-out to the Mountain Point High School girls' flag football team, which was competing in the semifinals for the state championship. This marks a significant milestone as the team aims for its first state title in just its second year of competition.

Looking ahead, the board announced a community service event titled "Teen Spirit of Giving," scheduled for December 6 at Tempe Marketplace. This initiative, led by students from the Marcos Business Academy, aims to support the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program by raising funds and collecting gifts for local teens in need. The event promises to be family-friendly, featuring live music, games, and opportunities for attendees to contribute to the holiday spirit.
