Kiwanis Club of San Gabriel announces $1000 scholarships for local students

The San Gabriel Kiwanis Club is making waves this spring with its annual scholarship program, aimed at supporting local high school seniors in their pursuit of higher education. At the City Council meeting on March 18, 2025, Sherry Cabot, representing the club, announced that they will award ten $1,000 scholarships to students demonstrating financial need and a commitment to community service.

The application window opened on March 17 and will remain open until April 11, with eligibility extended to seniors from several local high schools, including Del Mar High School and San Gabriel Academy. Cabot highlighted the immediate response, noting that a student from Del Mar High applied as soon as the portal opened.

In addition to the scholarship announcement, the council swiftly moved through routine business, approving the consent calendar unanimously with a 5-0 vote. This streamlined process indicates a focus on efficiency in city governance, allowing council members to address more pressing matters in future meetings.
