Millis residents will soon have the opportunity to shape the future of services for older adults as the Select Board announced a comprehensive outreach initiative during their meeting on March 17, 2025. The project aims to gather insights from residents aged 60 and over through focus groups, surveys, and expert interviews, with the goal of enhancing the quality of life for seniors in the community.
The outreach will kick off with a yellow postcard mailing on May 6, alerting residents about the upcoming survey, which will be sent out a week later on May 13. This survey, consisting of approximately 40 questions, will be designed to collect both quantitative and qualitative data regarding the needs and experiences of older residents. To facilitate participation, the survey will include a prepaid return envelope and will also be available online. Additionally, residents can opt to complete the survey over the phone with assistance from UMass graduate students.
Caitlin, a representative from the initiative, emphasized the importance of community engagement in this process, stating that the data collected will inform the Council on Aging's services and programs both now and in the future. The Select Board expressed excitement about the project and encouraged residents to participate actively, highlighting the significance of their input in shaping effective interventions for issues such as social isolation.
In addition to the senior outreach initiative, the meeting also addressed ongoing infrastructure improvements. The Select Board discussed plans for road paving in the upcoming fiscal year, with a proposed budget of approximately $1.16 million. Key projects include paving Orchard Street, Myrtle Street, and Park Road, among others. The board is committed to addressing the deteriorating conditions of local roads, ensuring safer travel for all residents.
As these initiatives unfold, the Select Board is optimistic about fostering a more inclusive and responsive community for Millis's older residents while simultaneously enhancing the town's infrastructure. The upcoming survey and paving projects are set to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Millis, reflecting the town's dedication to improving the quality of life for all its residents.
