Walnut Grove's library is set to expand its community offerings significantly this summer, following a successful council meeting on March 13, 2025. Library Director Dana Seager announced that the library will double its programs, thanks to strong community support and involvement.
During her report, Seager highlighted the success of recent events, including a Master Gardener presentation that attracted 20 attendees and the library's seed library initiative, which now allows patrons to take home three packets of seeds per visit. This change has led to a surge in seed distribution, showcasing the library's commitment to fostering community gardening efforts.
Seager also praised the library's food pantry, which has become self-sustaining, with usage ranging from two to 14 patrons daily. This success is attributed to the community's generous donations, allowing the pantry to operate without the need for constant solicitation.
In a notable collaboration, Walnut Grove Elementary School donated 20 boxes of books, which were quickly sold during a fundraising event, demonstrating the strong partnership between the library and local schools. Seager expressed enthusiasm for future donations and the positive impact they have on the community.
The meeting underscored the library's role as a vital community hub, with plans for a busy summer ahead. As the library continues to grow its programs and services, it remains focused on engaging the community and meeting their needs.
