The Harrisburg City Council held a legislative session on February 11, 2025, where members paid tribute to several notable residents who recently passed away. The council began the meeting with a moment of silence to honor Miss Lorraine Lawson, Miss Carol Ann Wilkins, Elder Alisto Waters, Miss Mamie Williams, Miss Lori Jenkins, and Mister Bridal Pendleton. Each individual was recognized for their contributions to the community, highlighting their achievements and the impact they had on the lives of others.
Miss Lawson, a proud graduate of John Harris High School, was remembered for her dedication to education. Miss Wilkins, a Harrisburg High School alumna, was celebrated for her long career at Rite Aid and her love for social activities. Elder Waters, known as Miss Tiny, was acknowledged for her diverse career, including her work as a beautician and business owner. Miss Williams made history as the first Black woman supervisor in the water department and director of the Human Relations Commission. Miss Jenkins was recognized for her academic accomplishments and her work as a self-employed attorney. Lastly, Mister Pendleton was honored for his role as a barber and mentor in the community.
