Noise complaints from Beverly Regional Airport have become a focal point for the Danvers community, as officials report significant progress in addressing residents' concerns. During a recent Select Board meeting, the airport's noise abatement subcommittee shared updates on a new procedure aimed at reducing noise disturbances, which has been a longstanding issue for Danvers residents.
Since the implementation of a tracking system for noise complaints on January 1, 2024, the airport has received 341 communications regarding noise, with 64 complaints coming from 19 unique addresses in Danvers. This new approach marks a shift from previous practices, where complaints went untracked and unresolved. The airport's commitment to follow up with both complainants and aircraft operators has led to a noticeable decrease in complaints, dropping from as many as 70 in some months to just three recently.
The tone of complaints has also shifted, with residents expressing less anger and more willingness to engage in dialogue. This change is attributed to the airport's proactive communication and responsiveness, fostering a sense of collaboration between the airport and the community. While officials acknowledge that challenges remain, the progress made in addressing noise concerns is being celebrated as a significant step forward in improving relations with Danvers residents.
