At the recent Breakfast with the Mayor event in Orland Park, Mayor Keith Pekau highlighted the village's impressive financial turnaround and significant investments in infrastructure and public safety.

Mayor Pekau opened the meeting by noting that Orland Park is in "very good shape" financially compared to eight years ago. He emphasized the village's commitment to improving its roads, which have seen a substantial increase in quality over the past five years. The mayor reported that road ratings have improved from a score of 48 to the 60s, thanks to a doubling of spending on road maintenance.

In addition to road improvements, the village has made remarkable strides in enhancing its parks. Since 2020, Orland Park has renovated 32 of its 55 playgrounds, a significant leap from the mere 10 parks fixed in the previous two decades. The mayor also announced plans for an all-abilities playground at Shusler Park, which will cater to children with diverse needs and include features like rubber mats for accessibility.

Looking ahead, the village plans to renovate three more parks this year, aiming to complete upgrades on 42 of the 55 parks by 2027. Notably, Dugan Park will feature a new basketball court and ten lighted pickleball courts, strategically located to minimize noise for nearby residents.

On the public safety front, Mayor Pekau reported that Orland Park has experienced the lowest crime rates in the past six years, despite broader concerns about safety in surrounding areas. This positive trend underscores the village's commitment to maintaining a safe environment for its residents.
