At the City Council meeting on October 3, 2024, the spotlight shone brightly on the Clearlake Animal Shelter as they introduced Romeo, a playful two-year-old German Shepherd mix, as the featured adoptable dog of the month. Romeo, described as goofy and adventurous, is ready to find his forever home, alongside many other furry friends at the shelter.
The shelter reported a significant year-to-date intake of 321 dogs, with 273 dogs successfully leaving the facility. This includes 49 dogs sent to rescues, 99 returned to their owners, and 23 adopted, resulting in an impressive release rate of 98.67%. Currently, the shelter houses 54 dogs, comprising 51 adults and 3 puppies.
In a bid to increase visibility for adoptable pets, council members discussed the possibility of showcasing dogs through slideshows during future meetings. This initiative aims to reach those unable to visit the shelter in person, enhancing community engagement and support for the animals.
The meeting underscored the shelter's ongoing commitment to animal welfare, with over 100 microchips and vaccinations administered this year, alongside numerous spay and neuter procedures. As the community rallies around these efforts, the hope is that more pets like Romeo will soon find loving homes.
