Macon County tax office seeks reappointment amid software upgrades and tax base growth

The Macon County Commissioners meeting on March 11, 2025, highlighted significant achievements and future goals of the county's tax office, led by its administrator. The administrator reported on various advancements made over the past five years, including the successful implementation of new software that replaced a 34-year-old system, enhancing operational efficiency. During the pandemic, the tax office managed to operate effectively, expanding its lobby and creating a secure receptionist area. A notable accomplishment was the completion of a boundary adjustment between Macon and Jackson counties, which increased the tax base by $3.9 billion and involved processing approximately 2,100 appeals.

Looking ahead, the administrator outlined goals for the next four years, including focusing on delinquent tax collection, conducting audits of property programs, and implementing an online bill payment system. Additionally, preparations for a 2027 reappraisal to ensure fair taxation were discussed.

The meeting concluded with a motion to reappoint the administrator for another four-year term, which was unanimously approved by the commissioners. The administrator expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized a commitment to serving the community of Macon County.
