Muskogee Public Schools has achieved significant energy savings and environmental recognition, as highlighted during the recent board meeting on March 12, 2025. The district's partnership with Synergistic, an energy management firm, has resulted in a remarkable 20% reduction in energy consumption over the past three years, translating to total savings of $454,000.

Justin Colter, the client manager for Muskogee Public Schools, presented the findings, emphasizing the importance of these savings amid rising utility costs. The district's efforts have not only reduced expenses but also contributed positively to the environment, equating to the impact of taking 430 homes off the grid or saving over 7,000 barrels of oil.

In addition to the financial benefits, seven school buildings within the district received Energy Star certification from the Environmental Protection Agency. This prestigious recognition places these buildings in the top 25% for energy efficiency among similar facilities nationwide. Colter noted that this achievement was accomplished without compromising the comfort and integrity of the learning environment, as rigorous testing and surveys were conducted to ensure optimal conditions for students.

The meeting underscored the district's commitment to sustainability and efficient resource management, setting a benchmark for other school districts to follow.
