Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) has reported a record-breaking ridership of 3.2 million trips in fiscal year 2024, marking a significant recovery from the pandemic's impact on public transit. During a recent City Council meeting, CEO Paul Christina highlighted the agency's transformative changes, including the introduction of the GoZone operation, which allows riders to travel flexibly from their location to their desired destination. This initiative has been a key driver in nearly tripling ridership since the pandemic.
The A-train, a major component of DCTA's services, has seen consistent double-digit growth in ridership for four consecutive years, positioning it among the top-performing commuter railroads in the nation. Christina noted that the A-train's success is particularly notable given its competition with densely populated urban areas.

This change is expected to make the service more convenient for commuters, allowing them to board without worrying about schedules. Additionally, plans for a new station at Current are underway, which will connect to the upcoming Silver Line project by Dallas Area Rapid Transit, providing easier access to DFW Airport.
Christina also discussed the potential development around the Old Town Lewisville Station, where DCTA owns 13 acres of property. The vision includes a mixed-use space featuring office buildings, retail, and possibly a hotel or conference center, which would enhance connectivity and community engagement.
The DCTA's initiatives reflect a commitment to improving public transportation and fostering community development, with the expectation that these enhancements will significantly benefit local residents and commuters in the coming years.
