The Addison County Regional Planning Commission (ACRPC) is set to enhance its community services with a robust budget for 2025, primarily supported by significant funding from various state agencies. During the recent Full Commission meeting held on January 1, 2025, officials outlined a budget totaling approximately $2.3 million, with key allocations aimed at improving local infrastructure and environmental initiatives.
The largest portion of the budget, around $500,000, comes from the Agency of Commerce and Community Development, which supports general planning activities. This funding is crucial for enabling various projects that align with Vermont statutes. Additionally, the commission will receive about $1 million annually from the Agency of Natural Resources, specifically designated for the remediation of phosphorus in Lake Champlain. This initiative is vital for maintaining the health of the lake and surrounding ecosystems.
Transportation planning will also see a boost, with $250,000 allocated from the Agency of Transportation. This funding is essential for ongoing transportation projects that enhance connectivity and safety within the region. Furthermore, emergency management efforts will be supported by approximately $50,000, alongside smaller grants totaling around $70,000 for hazard mitigation plans across various municipalities.
The commission is also set to benefit from a $500,000 grant over three years from the Environmental Protection Agency for Brownfields redevelopment, which aims to revitalize contaminated properties. Another notable funding source is a grant from Middlebury College for developing a land use plan, which is currently in the draft stage and awaiting acceptance from the college.
The meeting highlighted the importance of these funding streams in sustaining the commission's operations and advancing community projects. As the ACRPC prepares to implement these initiatives, stakeholders can anticipate significant improvements in local planning and environmental management efforts in the coming year.
