City officials highlight success of Garden Grove's affordable housing outreach programs

During the recent Garden Grove City Council meeting, a spotlight was shone on the city’s efforts to combat homelessness through innovative programs. Council member Tim praised the work of the city’s team, particularly highlighting a recent visit to three affordable housing locations alongside Assistant City Manager Matt West and Sheila Tim.

Tim expressed admiration for the meticulous approach taken by the city, noting that the program not only provides housing but also offers essential support services such as healthcare, nutrition, and employment opportunities. “It’s impressive that we are not just helping people find a place to live, but also supporting their overall well-being,” he stated.

The council member emphasized the importance of these initiatives in reducing homelessness, echoing sentiments shared by fellow council member George about integrating individuals back into regular life. Tim expressed a desire to become more involved in these efforts, aiming to further decrease the number of homeless individuals in the community.

Additionally, Tim raised questions regarding the outreach efforts of the Special Resources Team (SRT) and the B-Wall Mobile Response Team, noting that the SRT had made over 5,370 contacts, resulting in 25 referrals for emergency housing. He commended this achievement as a significant step in addressing the housing crisis.

The meeting underscored the city’s commitment to tackling homelessness through comprehensive support systems, with council members eager to enhance their involvement in these vital programs.
