Carroll County adopts comprehensive economic development strategy for 2025-2030

The Carroll County Fiscal Court convened on January 28, 2025, to discuss the adoption of a comprehensive economic development strategy, known as SEDS, aimed at guiding the county's economic growth from 2025 to 2030. The plan is designed to enhance the county's economy and secure funding opportunities while addressing local issues identified by community members and industry leaders.

The meeting began with an overview of the SEDS, which is a five-year plan that aligns with the Economic Development Administration's guidelines. 1. **Strengthening Economic Infrastructure and Livability**: This involves enhancing planning and zoning, increasing the supply of quality housing, upgrading utilities and broadband, and modernizing road systems to attract businesses.

2. **Supporting a Thriving Business Climate**: The plan aims to bolster the Chamber of Commerce, create county-wide incentives for business growth, and expand technical services for small businesses.

3. **Building Resilient Economic Foundations**: This goal focuses on financial preparedness for natural disasters, strengthening emergency services, and maintaining transportation infrastructure.

4. **Developing Workforce and Human Capital**: Objectives include promoting career readiness programs, aligning education with industry needs, and expanding healthcare and childcare options.

5. **Promoting Natural and Recreational Access**: The plan emphasizes the rehabilitation of existing facilities, maintaining local parks, and promoting tourism through initiatives like trail town status.

The magistrates reviewed the plan and made minor adjustments before seeking its adoption. The meeting concluded with a commitment to implement the SEDS, which is expected to lay the groundwork for future economic opportunities in Carroll County.
