The Sudbury Board of Health meeting on October 24, 2024, focused on the facility needs assessment and action plan for Sudbury Farms, presented by Roche Brothers' Chief Operating Officer. The discussion highlighted significant improvements and ongoing challenges at the store, which has faced pest control issues due to its aging infrastructure and location.
The facility, built in the early 1980s on a swampy area, has experienced settling that has created vulnerabilities for pests. The COO reported that extensive repairs have been made, including sealing access points and addressing structural concerns. However, two critical areas remain: a settling container at the back of the building and deteriorating dumpster chutes, which are scheduled for repair by early December.
To mitigate pest issues, the store has implemented advanced monitoring technology, including infrared cameras, and has increased pest control visits to five days a week. The COO noted a significant decrease in pest activity since these measures were put in place.
In addition to structural repairs, the store is undergoing a major remodel to enhance its operations and customer experience. This includes removing secondary displays that could harbor pests, allowing for better management of the sales floor and deep cleaning efforts.
The Board of Health expressed appreciation for the proactive steps taken by Roche Brothers and emphasized the importance of ongoing communication and monitoring as the store continues to address its facility challenges. The meeting underscored the commitment to ensuring a safe and healthy environment for Sudbury residents while enhancing the shopping experience at Sudbury Farms.
