During the recent council meeting, Communications and Marketing Manager Constance Helen Wilson provided an update on the town's efforts to communicate the implications of the proposed rate hike, which is expected to generate approximately $1 million in additional revenue.
The town's dedicated website, launched to facilitate transparency, has already attracted 1,200 views in just two weeks. It features a rate calculator that allows residents to estimate their potential increases based on their current water bills. Feedback has been mixed, with some residents expressing concerns about the rate hike while others have engaged positively with the information provided.
In addition to the website, the town has utilized various communication channels, including press releases, social media, and direct emails to water customers, achieving a notable 79% open rate on the latter. The outreach strategy also includes presentations at community events and information in local newsletters, ensuring that residents are aware of the upcoming changes and have opportunities to voice their opinions.
Council members expressed satisfaction with the outreach efforts, emphasizing the importance of keeping homeowners' associations (HOAs) informed about the potential financial impact of the rate increase.
