Board approves $143K asbestos abatement at Lighthouse Bridal School and Middle School South

Anchor Bay Schools is set to undertake significant asbestos abatement work at Lighthouse Bridal School North and Middle School South this summer, following a unanimous decision by the Board of Education during their regular meeting on February 26, 2025. The board approved a bid of $143,100 from Building Decommissioned Services, which was selected after a thorough review of proposals by Nova Environmental and maintenance supervisor Corey Wiley.

The decision comes as part of a broader initiative to ensure the safety of school environments. The asbestos removal will target mastic under flooring, door cores, and even components behind wall clocks, which have been identified as containing asbestos. This project will be funded through bond funds, emphasizing the district's commitment to maintaining safe facilities for students and staff.

In addition to the asbestos abatement, the board also discussed network upgrades, approving a contract with People Driven Technology for $390,594.71. This upgrade aims to enhance the district's communication infrastructure, ensuring that the technology meets current educational needs.

The board's proactive measures reflect a dedication to improving school safety and technology, with both projects expected to significantly benefit the Anchor Bay community.
