One of the key initiatives discussed was the consolidation of the core teaching teams from 16 to just five, which has streamlined communication and collaboration among educators. The introduction of a structured wellness period, previously known as recess, has also been a game-changer. This new schedule allows students to engage in physical activity and social interaction, contributing to a more positive school environment.

Data presented at the meeting showcased impressive results: behavior referrals have decreased by 17.5%, suspensions are down by 32%, and chronic absenteeism has dropped by 37%. Notably, referrals for classroom disruptions have plummeted by 63%, indicating a significant reduction in negative behaviors. The school also reported a 90% increase in sixth graders feeling relaxed after wellness activities, demonstrating the positive impact of these changes on student well-being.

Amber O'Neil and Cindy Westney, the school's student support interventionists, emphasized their commitment to providing tailored support for students. They focus on early intervention and personalized plans to help students thrive academically and socially. Their efforts include social skills training, emotional regulation strategies, and restorative practices to foster empathy and conflict resolution.

In addition to supporting students, the interventionists are also prioritizing teacher well-being. They have developed a behavior flowchart to assist teachers in identifying and addressing student needs effectively. The introduction of the "Pay It Forward" initiative encourages staff to support one another and extend that support to students, further enhancing the school’s positive climate.
