Wellington is gearing up for its annual tree giveaway, with a selection of seedlings and native plants set to delight local residents. This year, the village will distribute densa pine, pond cypress, little red maple, dune sunflower, and tickseed. While the community enjoyed a variety of flowers last year, the anticipated native orchids will not be available due to growth delays and rising costs.
The seedlings, expected to reach 6 to 8 inches by the time of the event, are currently in their early stages of development. The dune sunflower and tickseed are particularly popular among residents, promising to add vibrant colors to local gardens.
In addition to the plant giveaway, the village's communications department has enhanced outreach efforts by introducing a flower award, aimed at promoting community engagement and awareness about local flora.
As the event approaches, residents can look forward to enriching their gardens with these native plants, contributing to Wellington's green landscape.
