Brimfield Board discusses TeamAlert panic alarm system for town hall safety

A new panic alarm system is on the table for Brimfield Township, aimed at enhancing safety during board meetings. During the recent Board of Trustees meeting, a proposal was presented for a software-based panic alarm from TeamAlert, which would replace the current temporary solution of a phone with an auto-dial feature to 911.

The TeamAlert system features a physical button that, when pressed, triggers an auto-dialer to contact dispatch. It uses text-to-speech technology to relay a pre-set message, such as "panic alarm pressed, Brimfield, town hall, board meeting room." This innovation aims to address safety concerns raised by the Board of Zoning Appeals, particularly regarding potential disturbances during evening meetings.

The cost for the TeamAlert system is $15.76 per month for a single station, with additional stations available for $8 each. There is also a one-time equipment charge of $533. In comparison, the current phone system costs $15 per month, making the transition financially viable after the initial setup.

Brimfield Township officials, including Chief Moseley and Captain Atkins, have expressed support for the proposed system, indicating it would integrate well with the existing dispatch center. The board is now considering whether to move forward with this reasonable expenditure to bolster safety measures in their meetings.
