Davenport City is making strides in enhancing its outdoor recreational spaces with the construction of a new trail funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). This project aims to connect existing trails and provide safer pathways for residents to enjoy.

The ARPA-funded trail, which has just begun construction, will link the Goose Creek Trail to the Veterans Trail system. This connection is significant as it will create a continuous off-street path, allowing residents to navigate the area safely. The trail will run from near 50 Third Street to 50 Ninth Street, integrating with previously completed sections that were also funded through federal resources.

The Veterans Trail extension is particularly noteworthy, as it will provide a 10-foot path that enhances accessibility for walkers, joggers, and cyclists. This new route will allow users to travel beneath major roadways, including Kimberly Road and 46th Street, ensuring a safer experience away from traffic.

Once completed, the trail system will not only connect to the Veterans Trail but will also extend towards neighboring areas, including the Betplex and Devil's Glen, which leads down to the river. This expansion of the trail network is expected to promote outdoor activities and improve the quality of life for Davenport residents by providing more opportunities for recreation and community engagement.
