School Board Honors Students of the Week from Laramie County Schools

Under the bright lights of the Laramie County School District 1 meeting room, excitement filled the air as students from Rossman Elementary School led the Pledge of Allegiance, setting a tone of pride and community. The March 3, 2025, work session of the School Board of Trustees showcased not only the district's commitment to education but also its dedication to celebrating student achievements.

The evening began with the adoption of the agenda, followed by one of the most cherished segments of the meeting: the recognition of the "Student of the Week." This week, three outstanding students were honored for their achievements and contributions to their schools.

Chase Blatus, an eighth grader from Johnson Junior High, was the first to be recognized. Principal Mikayla Bradshaw praised Chase for his academic excellence and active participation in athletics, highlighting his transition to the school as a military family member. Chase, though nervous, expressed gratitude for his favorite teacher, Ken Johnson, who has made learning enjoyable.

Next was Ross Teneck, a twelfth grader from South High School. Principal Carrie Gentry shared Ross's impressive accomplishments, including his participation in national choir competitions and chess tournaments. Ross, who has only recently discovered his passion for singing, has also taken the initiative to start a jazz choir at his school, showcasing his leadership and creativity.

The final recognition went to Teagan McGinnis, a seventh grader from Cary Junior High. Principal Matt Schlagle commended Teagan for her academic performance and leadership qualities. Teagan expressed her aspirations to attend prestigious universities like MIT or Yale and credited her favorite teacher, Todd Jonas, for making learning engaging and fun.

Joan Martinez from Western Vista Federal Credit Union presented certificates and gift cards to the students and their favorite teachers, reinforcing the community's support for education. The recognition ceremony not only celebrated individual achievements but also highlighted the collaborative spirit of students, teachers, and families within the district.

As the meeting continued, the atmosphere remained vibrant, filled with applause and encouragement for the next generation of leaders. The School Board's commitment to recognizing student success serves as a reminder of the importance of fostering a supportive educational environment, one that inspires students to reach their full potential.
