Developer unveils multi-generational housing plan for Alden's Reach community

In a recent meeting of the Plymouth Zoning Board of Appeals, developers presented an ambitious plan for Alden's Reach, a new multi-generational community designed to foster a vibrant neighborhood atmosphere. The proposal includes 18 homes, with five designated as affordable housing, showcasing a blend of innovative architectural designs aimed at accommodating various family structures.

At the heart of the plan is a unique triplex design, where the third floor is cleverly integrated into the roof, creating a ground-level condominium that targets seniors while remaining open to all age groups. Above this, two townhomes will provide additional living options. The developers emphasized their shift away from traditional age-restricted communities, noting a national trend towards inclusive living spaces that encourage interaction among seniors, young couples, and families.

The meeting highlighted the success of a similar project in Raynham, called Larkwood, which has attracted a diverse mix of residents, including seniors and young families. This approach aims to create a supportive environment where grandparents can assist with childcare, enhancing community bonds.

The developers also showcased their commitment to new urbanism principles, focusing on pedestrian-friendly designs that prioritize people over vehicles. Plans include continuous sidewalks with distinct patterns to minimize conflicts between pedestrians and cars, ensuring safe and accessible pathways throughout the community. The revised master plan maintains the original road layout while incorporating feedback from local residents, particularly regarding traffic distribution.
