Local library book sale raises $4,000 and supports children’s literacy program

The Roseburg Library Commission meeting on December 17, 2024, highlighted the success of a recent book sale, which generated significant revenue for the library. The sale brought in $4,000, marking one of the highest earnings since the library's opening sale, which raised $7,000.

Commission members expressed excitement over the unexpected financial boost, attributing part of the success to a large collection of horror movies that attracted many buyers. The event also saw numerous patrons making generous donations, with some contributing more than the purchase price of their books.

In addition to the book sale, the library received a donation of $277 for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which will support literacy for over 17 children for a year. The meeting also noted the trend of end-of-year donations from community members, which are common as the year closes.

The commission plans to share a detailed report of the book sale with the Friends of the Library, outlining sales figures and any notable occurrences, such as the donation of a piano. Overall, the meeting underscored the library's positive engagement with the community and its ongoing efforts to promote literacy and support local initiatives.
