Mason County is set to enhance community engagement and educational outreach following a productive Fiscal Court meeting on December 10, 2024. The meeting highlighted significant achievements in local programs and introduced new initiatives aimed at fostering stronger community ties and healthier lifestyles.

During the meeting, representatives reported impressive outreach statistics for the fiscal year 2024. Programs in payment consumer science reached 8,397 individuals, while agriculture and natural resources initiatives engaged 11,208 people. Horticulture programs connected with 6,944 participants, and 4-H programs saw a remarkable 7,710 contacts. Additionally, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) reached 2,865 individuals, showcasing the breadth of educational efforts in the county.

Looking ahead, several exciting programs are on the horizon. The upcoming Candyland event aims to provide families with a festive experience, while a homesteading series in January will focus on practical skills in agriculture and horticulture. Notably, the Horticulture program has successfully certified master gardeners at the local detention center, further extending its impact.

The meeting also welcomed Audrey Wright, the new agriculture and natural resources agent, who expressed enthusiasm for her role and commitment to the community. Her predecessor, Trevor, was commended for significantly increasing attendance at 4-H camps, with plans for additional funding to expand participation further.

In addition to program updates, the board is actively working on a 10-year resource plan, with a vote scheduled for next month. This strategic planning aims to optimize the use of resources for the benefit of Mason County taxpayers.
