Bibb County students are making strides in creativity, safety, and academic achievement, as highlighted in the recent Bibb County Board of Education meeting held on February 20, 2025.

A standout moment was the celebration of Black History Month at John R. Lewis Elementary School, where students showcased their artistic talents inspired by prominent African American artists. Art teacher Sydney Robertson emphasized the importance of self-expression and cultural pride through their projects, which reflect values of courage and justice.

The meeting also recognized the contributions of school counselors during National School Counseling Week. Director of Student Support Services, Tanisha Rosser, along with other counselors, attended a state event to discuss legislative issues affecting education. Their commitment to student well-being was acknowledged, reinforcing the vital role they play in the district.

In a show of appreciation for campus safety, the board celebrated School Resource Officer Day, highlighting the mentorship programs and community engagement efforts of the campus police team. Deputy Chief Latricia Giddens was commended for completing a chief executive training program, while Officer Cynthia Haywood was welcomed to the department, bringing valuable experience to the team.

February also marked National Career Technical and Agricultural Education Month, with various events showcasing the skills students are developing through CTAE programs. The district celebrated excellence in education, with State School Superintendent Richard Woods recognizing Skyview and Lane Elementary Schools for their achievements in math and literacy.

The meeting concluded with a focus on upcoming events, including a transition resource fair for students with disabilities and a recruitment fair aimed at attracting new educators to the district. The community is encouraged to participate in these initiatives, which aim to foster a supportive and enriching educational environment.
