Arkansas Senate honors Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity for community contributions

Members of the Arkansas Senate have introduced Senate Resolution 29, a formal recognition of the significant contributions made by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. The resolution, presented on February 20, 2025, highlights the fraternity's extensive community service, educational support, and historical impact.

The resolution notes that Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. has played a pivotal role in establishing the Phi Beta Sigma National Foundation and the Phi Beta Sigma Federal Credit Union. Notably, the fraternity contributes an impressive 576,000 volunteer hours each year, mentors 4,500 young men, and awards $1.2 million in scholarships annually. Additionally, it has invested $18 million in the Black Spend Initiative, underscoring its commitment to economic empowerment within the community.

The resolution also pays tribute to prominent members of the fraternity, including historical figures such as scientist George Washington Carver and civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis, as well as contemporary figures like former President Bill Clinton and Olympic gold medalist Al Joyner. This acknowledgment not only celebrates the fraternity's legacy but also its ongoing influence in various sectors, including politics, arts, and education.
