Lewis County proposes $2 billion compressed air energy storage project

A proposed $2 billion energy project in Lewis County aims to revolutionize local electricity storage and generation, potentially creating hundreds of jobs and reshaping the community's energy landscape. The project, which utilizes a novel method of compressed air energy storage, is expected to generate approximately 700 construction jobs and 40 permanent positions once operational.

The innovative system works by using excess electricity to compress air, which is then stored underground in a cavern. When energy demand rises, the stored air is released, pushing water back into the cavern to generate electricity.
