A group of fifth graders from Oak Street Elementary School in Falls Church City made a memorable visit to the Virginia Capitol during the regular session on February 18, 2025. The students, recognized for their participation in a rigorous international baccalaureate program, were welcomed by Delegate Willock, who praised their curiosity and intelligence.

The visit aimed to educate the students about the legislative process and inspire them to propose a new initiative focused on outdoor education for the upcoming General Assembly session. Delegate Willock highlighted the students' insightful questions, noting they surpassed those typically posed by seasoned legislators.

In addition to the student recognition, the session included light-hearted moments, such as Delegate Willock announcing a birthday celebration for Delegate Sickles, complete with ice cream cake.

The meeting also addressed various legislative matters, including requests to move certain bills from an uncontested calendar to the regular calendar. Several bills were set aside for the day at the request of various delegates, indicating ongoing legislative activity.

As the session progressed, Delegate Culpepper raised a point of personal privilege, cautioning that the upcoming testimony would be graphic in nature, suggesting that guardians might want to prepare the students for what was to come.

This session not only showcased the engagement of young minds in the legislative process but also highlighted the camaraderie and procedural dynamics within the Virginia General Assembly.
