In a historic moment for the DeSoto Fire Department, the City Council recognized the promotions of Fire Captain Bridal Kennedy and Engineer Driver Antoine Lewis during a special meeting on February 17, 2025. Fire Chief Brian Southard highlighted the dedication and hard work that goes into achieving these promotions, emphasizing the rigorous testing process and the sacrifices made by the families of the firefighters.
Bridal Kennedy, previously an engineer, will now serve as the administrative captain, a newly created position responsible for training and uniform management within the department. Chief Southard praised Kennedy's extensive experience, including prior service as a fire chief, which will greatly benefit the administrative team.
The meeting also marked a significant milestone for the DeSoto Fire Department, as Antoine Lewis became the first Black firefighter to promote to a supervisory position in the department's operational side since its establishment in 1949. Chief Southard noted that this promotion is a historic achievement, reflecting the department's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
