The Woodland Hills School District held its WHSD Agenda Meeting on February 12, 2025, where various topics highlighting student achievements and upcoming events were discussed.
The meeting began with a report on the recent success of the district's VEX IQ robotics teams. On February 10, the middle school and elementary teams participated in the Bash at the Berry Dome competition in Seneca, PA, competing against 60 teams from Western Pennsylvania. Notably, the elementary team 15104 A, known as the Turtles, received the Design Award. Additionally, team 15104 C, Hardwire, won the Teamwork Championship Award at a previous competition in North Allegheny, qualifying them for the Western PA VEX IQ Robotics Championship. The teams were praised for their creativity and teamwork, with a special mention of the team named the Pink Princesses, who won the Judges Award for their ability to articulate their mission and purpose effectively.
Following the robotics discussion, student representative Zach provided updates on school activities, emphasizing the celebration of Black History Month. He highlighted the efforts of the Black Student Union, which organized an assembly featuring motivational speaker Davontae Butler and initiated a door decorating contest to honor Black history and culture.
Zach also shared the accomplishments of Woodland Hills students in various competitions, including the ESSBA gear competition, where they secured first place in the straw rocket challenge and second place overall. The district's students excelled in the ESSBA equations tournament, achieving first, fourth, and fifth places, with one student earning an individual second place award.
Athletic achievements were also recognized, with senior athletes in wrestling, basketball, bowling, and swimming being honored for their dedication. The boys' basketball team secured a playoff spot, while the rifle team qualified for the state championships, marking a significant achievement in the program's history. In swimming, several athletes qualified for the Whippie championships, showcasing their hard work and commitment.
The meeting concluded with a focus on community engagement, as students participated in the NACAC College Fair and collaborated with middle schoolers in entrepreneurship activities. The Men of Valor program was noted for its positive impact on young leaders within the community.
