Muhlenberg County Schools is celebrating the success of its inaugural eSports team, which has made a significant impact on students' engagement and teamwork. During the regular board meeting on December 1, 2024, members highlighted the achievements of the team, which has already garnered attention for its competitive spirit and camaraderie.

The eSports team, featuring students like senior Quinn Fleming and sophomore Gabe Thomas, has participated in various competitions, including Mario Kart and League of Legends. The team reached impressive milestones, with the Mario Kart squad advancing to the round of eight in their tournament, while the League of Legends team ranked among the top competitors in the state. Their performance has set a strong foundation for future seasons, with plans to expand participation from 25 to approximately 40 students in the upcoming spring.

Coaches Drew Diedrich and Krista Thompson praised the students for stepping out of their comfort zones and embracing the challenges of competitive gaming. The program not only fosters teamwork but also provides opportunities for students who may not have access to gaming resources at home. The excitement surrounding the eSports initiative was palpable, with students expressing gratitude for the chance to bond and compete together.

In addition to the eSports discussion, the meeting also recognized the contributions of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, particularly highlighting the engineering program led by Miss Thompson.
