The Roswell City Council celebrated a significant milestone for the local fire department during a recent meeting, highlighting the achievements of two outstanding firefighters. Battalion Chief Jason Patterson and Captain Chad Miller were recognized with prestigious state awards, underscoring the department's commitment to excellence in public safety.

Mayor Kurt Wilson, alongside council members Lee Hills and Sarah Beeson, praised the accomplishments of Patterson, named Instructor of the Year, and Miller, honored as Educator of the Year. These accolades reflect the hard work and dedication of the Roswell Fire Department, which is currently transitioning from a part-time to a full-time operation as part of a five-year implementation plan.

Chief Joe Panino emphasized the importance of Patterson's role in enhancing training for firefighters, having doubled the training hours and ensuring that new recruits meet high standards. Meanwhile, Miller has successfully launched a Citizens Fire Academy, a ten-week program that has garnered significant interest from the community, allowing residents to learn about fire safety and the department's operations.

Council member Sarah Beeson noted that having two state-recognized awardees is a rare achievement, reinforcing the department's goal of becoming the top fire department in the United States.
