The recent meeting of the Venice Special Magistrate for Code Enforcement highlighted ongoing concerns regarding property maintenance and compliance within the community. A significant case discussed involved a property at 545 Riviera Street, Unit B, which has been under scrutiny for multiple code violations since early 2023.
During the meeting, it was reported that despite previous warnings and notifications, the property remains in disrepair. Issues include an active beehive, deteriorating fence lines, and significant debris scattered throughout the yard. The city’s code enforcement officer noted that the condition of the property has worsened, with dead bees visible inside the windows and yard waste still present.
The magistrate confirmed that the property owner had been given ample notice of the hearing but failed to address the violations. As a result, the city recommended a fine of $250 per day, starting from February 4, 2025, until the property is brought into compliance. This fine will be recorded as a lien against the property, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
In addition to this case, the meeting also touched on other enforcement issues, including a complaint about work being done without a permit at the Ridgewood Mobile Home Park. Community resource officer Michael Halpin provided updates on this matter, indicating that the city is actively monitoring compliance across various properties.
The discussions from this meeting underscore the city’s commitment to maintaining community standards and ensuring that properties are safe and well-kept for all residents. As the city moves forward, it will continue to address violations and enforce compliance to enhance the quality of life in Venice.
