Village trustees endorse Winnebago County zoning map amendment for residential development

The Planning & Economic Development Committee of the Village of Machesney Park convened on February 3, 2025, to discuss several key zoning matters, including a text amendment and a zoning application from the Winnebago County Zoning Board.

The committee began by addressing a proposed text amendment, which received a positive recommendation from both staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission. The discussion highlighted the adequacy of access for emergency vehicles, with confirmation that the design allows for a minimum of 12 feet for a drive-through, ensuring sufficient space for fire trucks and ambulances. Following this discussion, the committee voted unanimously in favor of the amendment, which will be forwarded to the upcoming meeting on February 17.

Next on the agenda was a resolution responding to a zoning application under consideration by the Winnebago County Zoning Board. The application pertains to a 4.97-acre parcel located south of Burr Oak Road and Catwood Road, currently zoned as Agricultural Priority District (AG). The proposed change to Rural Agricultural Residential District (RA) aims to align the zoning with existing classifications to the north and west of the site. The committee motioned to support this application, with a vote scheduled for February 18.
