Crestwood Elementary School emerged as the top fundraiser, contributing nearly $8,000. Hand2Hand serves approximately 65,000 students at risk of hunger in the region, providing backpacks filled with nutritious food to ensure that children do not go hungry over weekends and school breaks. Currently, 129 students in Rockford benefit from this program, which utilizes $18,500 of resources annually.

Following this recognition, the board moved on to discuss the approval of a furniture purchase for Crestwood Elementary. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance learning environments across the district, funded by a bond passed in 2019. The proposal included outfitting 12 additional classrooms at Crestwood with flexible furniture designed to improve student engagement and instructional practices. The total cost for this furniture purchase was estimated at $469,833, with plans to implement the new furnishings in the coming months.
