At the recent Union County Board of County Commissioners meeting, two local heroes were honored with the prestigious Presidential Gold Award for their outstanding community service. Sean McClain, President of the Elizabeth Branch of the NAACP, and retired detective Darren Williamson were recognized for their significant contributions to the community.
Commissioner Granados highlighted McClain's impactful initiatives, which include mentorship programs and community events aimed at promoting water safety for underserved youth. "Sean has shown us how leadership and compassion can create transformative change," Granados stated, emphasizing the breadth of McClain's influence.
Williamson, who served with the Elizabeth Police Department for 30 years, was commended for his dedication to helping those in need. His efforts extend beyond law enforcement, as he actively feeds and clothes the less fortunate and mentors local youth. Granados noted, "His legacy is one of service and kindness that continues to inspire."
Both honorees expressed gratitude for the recognition. McClain acknowledged the collaborative efforts that have led to positive changes in the community, while Williamson reflected on his long-standing commitment to service, thanking his family and executive board for their support.
The meeting underscored the importance of community engagement and the profound impact that dedicated individuals can have on their neighborhoods. As Union County continues to celebrate such contributions, the board looks forward to further initiatives that foster community spirit and support.
