Utah's House of Representatives celebrated significant community initiatives and honored local heroes during the 11th day of the 2025 General Session on January 31.

Highlighting the session was the introduction of Jenlyn Christiansen, recently nominated as Utah's Mother of the Year. Christiansen, a mother of six, is launching "Operation Mom Love," an initiative aimed at supporting single and struggling mothers in Utah. With 13% of families in the state led by single mothers, this program seeks to connect these women with sponsors and mentors, fostering a supportive community. Representative Hawkins praised Christiansen's dedication, noting her personal challenges, including her husband's battle with multiple sclerosis, and her entrepreneurial spirit in founding a landscaping company.

The session also welcomed Barrett Elementary's 4th and 5th graders, emphasizing the importance of civic education. Representative Cutler highlighted the contributions of the Utah Recreation and Parks Association, celebrating outdoor recreation's role in the state.

In a show of respect for local traditions, Representative Albrecht introduced college rodeo athletes, underscoring their commitment to preserving Utah's western heritage. He called for recognition of their hard work and dedication to the sport.

The House further honored Dr. Michael Good, former CEO of University of Utah Health, for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped Utah become one of the first states to reopen its economy. A citation was signed in his honor, acknowledging his contributions to public health and economic recovery.

Lastly, Representative Daley Provo moved to recognize the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office on its 175th anniversary, commending its commitment to community safety and law enforcement excellence. The session concluded with a round of applause for the sheriff's office, celebrating its long-standing service to the residents of Salt Lake County.
