The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) held its inaugural Executive Advisory Council meeting on December 17, 2024, marking a significant step in the state's cannabis governance. Executive Director Adria Berry welcomed attendees and emphasized the collaborative goals of the newly formed council, which currently consists of two out of the six appointed members.
During the meeting, members introduced themselves and shared their backgrounds. Katie Nell, a family nurse practitioner, expressed her commitment to educating patients and healthcare providers about cannabis, drawing on her master's degree in cannabis science and therapeutics. She highlighted her passion for patient advocacy and education.
Nancy McCumber, representing a cannabis processing facility, shared her journey from a corporate HR background to the cannabis industry. She emphasized her facility's commitment to safety and quality, noting that they are the only processor in Oklahoma with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) certification. McCumber's focus on health and wellness reflects her belief in the importance of cannabis as a therapeutic option.
The meeting also addressed the need for additional council members, as some appointments are still pending. Berry indicated that recordings of the meeting would be shared with new members to ensure they are informed before the next gathering.
This meeting sets the stage for future discussions on cannabis policy and patient care in Oklahoma, as the council aims to enhance the state's medical marijuana framework. The next steps will involve finalizing the council's membership and continuing to build on the foundational goals established during this initial meeting.
