The CareerTech State Board Meeting held on December 2024 showcased significant achievements in Oklahoma's agricultural education programs, highlighting the success of students and the expansion of resources dedicated to their development. Scott Nemechek, the program manager for agricultural education and state FFA adviser, presented an overview of the program's growth, noting that there are now 57 programs across 369 K-12 districts, serving over 29,000 students.
Nemechek emphasized the importance of the three-circle model of agricultural education, which includes classroom instruction, supervised agricultural experiences, and FFA activities. This model is designed to enhance students' skills through practical learning and leadership opportunities.
The meeting also celebrated the accomplishments of Oklahoma students at the recent national FFA convention. Highlights included eight national champions in various categories, 16 Gold Emblem teams, and 30 national three-star chapter recipients. Additionally, 198 students received the prestigious American FFA degree, recognizing their commitment to agricultural education and their ongoing projects.
Among the notable winners were Oakley Gross and Presley Watley from Stillwater, who excelled in the Agri Science Fair, and Trinity Bloche and Aubrey McIndoe, who have achieved national championship status multiple times in environmental services. The meeting underscored the growing impact of agricultural education in Oklahoma, with Nemechek expressing gratitude for the support from the CareerTech agency in expanding staff and resources to better serve educators and students.
As the program continues to evolve, the focus remains on fostering student success and preparing them for future careers in agriculture and related fields. The board's commitment to enhancing agricultural education is expected to yield further positive outcomes for students and the community in the coming years.
