The Martin County School District is set to celebrate African American culture and student creativity with a special event on February 22nd, from 9 AM to noon at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Stewart. This gathering will feature performances by students from various schools and culinary creations by Martin County High School Hospitality students, inspired by renowned chefs Bridal Terry and Jocelyn Jackson. The event aims to unite the community in honoring history, culture, and student achievements.
In addition to the upcoming celebration, the district recently recognized outstanding contributions from its educational support staff. Joshua Oviedo, an ELL paraprofessional at Doctor David L. Anderson Middle School, was named the overall School Related Employee of the Year. Oviedo, a proud graduate of the district, has made significant impacts by supporting English learners and engaging with families. His dedication exemplifies the district's mission to educate all students for success.
The meeting also highlighted the generosity of the "school lunch fairy," a nonprofit founded by two students from Wellington, Florida, which donated $3,000 to eliminate lunch debt for over 500 students in the district. This initiative ensures that no child is denied a nutritious meal, reinforcing the importance of school meal programs for student health and academic success.
These initiatives reflect the district's commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students and families in Martin County.
