The Victor Central School District celebrated a significant achievement at the January 16, 2025, Board of Education meeting, honoring the girls' varsity golf team for their impressive performance in the Section 5 championships. Dewey Weimer, the director of health, physical education, and athletics, led the recognition, highlighting the team's growth and success under the guidance of coaches Souza and Redout.
Weimer proudly announced that the girls' golf program, which started in 2016 with just nine participants, has expanded to 23 athletes this year, including the introduction of a junior varsity team. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity and the welcoming culture fostered by the coaching staff.
The standout moment of the evening was the recognition of junior Destiny Jodwin, who emerged as the individual class champion, winning by a remarkable eight strokes. Weimer praised her focus and determination, noting her exceptional performance during the championship, especially in challenging weather conditions. Alongside Jodwin, teammates Lila Herniker and Reagan French will also represent Victor in the upcoming individual state championship.
The girls' team, having clinched their second sectional title in nine years, will compete for a state title in the spring at Wildwood Country Club. Weimer expressed pride in the team's resilience and academic achievements, with a collective GPA around 95 or 96, showcasing their dedication both on the course and in the classroom.
The meeting also included heartfelt farewells to retiring staff members, with board members acknowledging the invaluable contributions of educators who will be leaving at the end of the school year. The evening underscored the community's commitment to celebrating student achievements and recognizing the hard work of educators, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.
