The City of Eustis is gearing up for a vibrant celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, with community events planned for January 19 and 20. During the recent City Commission meeting, Shakita Hill, accompanied by Pastor Kelly, expressed gratitude for the city's support in organizing these events and invited residents to participate.
The festivities will kick off on January 19 at Trinity Church with a gospel concert, followed by a unity walk on January 20, starting from the Eustis Memorial Library to Fern Park. This family-friendly event will feature activities aimed at fostering community spirit and honoring Dr. King's legacy.
In an effort to engage local youth, the organizers are encouraging young people to submit speeches about Dr. King, with a deadline set for tomorrow. Two submissions have already been received, but organizers hope to see more participation. The speeches will be judged, and winners will have the opportunity to present their work at the event, with monetary prizes available.
The City Commission also addressed routine business, approving the consent agenda without any items being pulled for discussion. The meeting highlighted the city's commitment to community engagement and the importance of honoring historical figures like Dr. King through active participation and education. As the events approach, the city looks forward to a strong turnout and a celebration of unity and remembrance.
