A young athlete from Parkland is making waves in the world of baseball! Penelope Millian, a second grader at Heron Heights Elementary, has captured attention not just for her love of the game, but for her impressive achievements in the Major League Baseball (MLB) Pitch, Hit, and Run competition.
During a recent City Commission meeting, Penelope was recognized for her outstanding performance in this annual event, which challenges young athletes in running, pitching accuracy, and hitting distances. Competing against over 60,000 kids nationwide, Penelope's journey began locally in March 2024, where her hard work and determination led her to win several local and regional competitions representing the Miami Marlins.
In a remarkable feat, she earned a spot in the finals held at Dodger Stadium during the World Series, where she finished in second place nationally in her age group. The MLB describes finalists as the "1% of the 1%" of youth athletes, highlighting the significance of her achievement.
