Residents of Flower Mound are rallying against a proposed helistop, voicing strong opposition during a recent Planning and Zoning meeting. The meeting, held on January 13, 2025, saw local homeowners express their concerns over the potential establishment of a helistop near their neighborhood, specifically south of Cross Timbers and west of Bell Drive.
Mike Agarian, a resident directly affected by the proposal, reported that he and fellow neighbors quickly organized a petition over the weekend, gathering 51 signatures in just two hours. The petition, signed by 21 out of 23 homeowners in the nearby Hillside subdivision, clearly states their opposition to Special Use Permit number 495 SUP24-6. Agarian highlighted key concerns including noise pollution, property values, safety, and environmental impacts, emphasizing that the community's voice should be heard.
Another resident, Adam Althouse, echoed these sentiments, urging the commission not to table the discussion but to vote on the proposal immediately. He criticized the applicant for not providing sufficient information regarding the helistop's operations, including flight paths and noise levels, which he argued are critical for community safety and quality of life.
Despite the residents' passionate pleas, the commission ultimately decided to table the proposal until February 10, allowing the applicant more time to address the community's concerns. This decision reflects a commitment to thorough consideration of the implications of the helistop, balancing the interests of the applicant with the worries of local residents.
As the community continues to gather signatures and express their opposition, the upcoming meeting will be pivotal in determining the future of the proposed helistop and its impact on the Flower Mound neighborhood.
