Mayor Joseph DeStefano opened the session with a heartfelt reflection on the recent holiday parade and tree lighting ceremony, celebrating its 27th year. “It was awesome,” he exclaimed, noting the impressive turnout of approximately 48,100 attendees, with crowds two to three deep along the parade route.

The mayor expressed gratitude to the many contributors who made the event a success, highlighting the collaborative efforts of local organizations, schools, and businesses. “We couldn’t have done it without everybody’s participation,” he said, acknowledging the involvement of the Middletown City School District, local youth sports teams, and various sponsors who helped bring the festive spirit to life.

DeStefano teased a friendly competition brewing among city departments for the best float, hinting at even greater participation in next year’s festivities. “We look forward to more floats and more participation next year,” he promised, as he encouraged community members to continue their involvement.

In addition to the holiday celebrations, the meeting also spotlighted the upcoming grand opening of Confluence Running at the Rail Trail Commons. Scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 AM, the event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a run/walk and various vendors. “Come on by and help support this great new business,” DeStefano urged, inviting residents to engage with the local economy.
