A groundbreaking proposal for a new private school in Wellington took center stage at the Village Council meeting on January 14, 2025. Marianne Rand, representing The New School Wellington, presented an ambitious plan that aims to address the growing demand for quality education in the area.

Rand highlighted the founders' impressive track record, having established 14 successful schools worldwide, including locations in Switzerland, the UK, and Singapore. The new school is set to be a nonprofit institution, distinct from its global counterparts, yet it promises to deliver the same high academic standards that have led to students gaining admission to prestigious universities.

With over 450 students currently leaving Wellington daily for private education elsewhere, Rand emphasized the urgent need for local options. The proposed school will cater to nearly 1,700 students, with a unique focus on entrepreneurship, global connections, and a robust arts program. Rand noted that the school would not only provide academic rigor but also foster innovation and collaboration with local businesses.

The project is backed by a significant investment of over $350 million, with plans to open in phases. The first phase will include early childhood education and a large middle and high school section, addressing immediate community needs. Rand also announced a scholarship program, offering 24 scholarships annually for the first five years, aimed at supporting families in financial need.

The architectural design will prioritize green spaces and outdoor education, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness. Rand concluded her presentation by inviting questions from the council, signaling a collaborative approach to integrating the new school into the Wellington community.
