The City of San Francisco is ramping up its oversight of substance use treatment providers following recent fatal overdoses linked to a local facility, HR 360. During a recent government meeting, officials emphasized the critical nature of monitoring and improving practices within the Behavioral Health Services (BHS) sector.

City representatives outlined the multi-layered oversight structure in place, which includes direct supervision from the California Department of Health Care Services and additional scrutiny from the local Department of Public Health (DPH). They highlighted the importance of routine monitoring and critical incident reporting, which escalates issues to leadership for further investigation when necessary.

In response to the tragic incidents at HR 360, immediate actions have been initiated. These include enhanced client safety measures, improved screening processes for patients, and a reduction in off-site passes to prioritize essential visits. The city is also collaborating with the treatment provider to implement an Agency Technical Assistance Plan, aimed at increasing compliance and oversight.
