The Arlington Independent School District (AISD) Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on October 3, 2024, where several significant recognitions and community partnerships were highlighted.
The meeting commenced with a vibrant performance by Thornton Elementary's Ballet Folklorico, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. The 32-member group showcased their talents, demonstrating the district's commitment to cultural appreciation and student engagement.
Following the performance, Dr. Ben Bollin recognized Liliana Bolen, a senior at Arlington College and Career High School (ACCHS), as the Student of the Month. Dr. Bollin praised her academic achievements, including earning over 60 college credit hours and her associate's degree from Tarrant County College before her senior year. Liliana is actively involved in various extracurricular activities and has a strong commitment to community service. She expressed gratitude for the support she received from her teachers and family, sharing her aspirations to become an elementary school teacher.
The meeting also honored the Arlington ISD Education Foundation (AEF) with a Community Partner Award for their 30 years of service to the district. AEF has provided over $2.5 million in grants to support innovative educational projects, significantly impacting teachers and students. Their recent achievements include awarding a record $253,956 in grants during the 2023-2024 school year.
Additionally, the National Life Group Foundation announced the winner of their Beats For Good music contest, Mason Moore, a graduate of Arlington High School. Mason will perform as the opening act at the upcoming Do Good Fest concert, which aims to promote mental health awareness and support local music education. The event will take place on October 12, 2024, at the Levitt Pavilion Arlington, with proceeds benefiting Arlington ISD.
The meeting concluded with a sense of pride in the district's achievements and a commitment to fostering educational excellence and community support. The board expressed appreciation for the contributions of students, educators, and community partners, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in enhancing the educational experience for all students in AISD.
