During the Duluth Public Schools Board meeting on December 17, 2024, the spotlight shone brightly on the achievements of local students who excelled in the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) International Leadership Conference. Assistant Superintendent Bonds highlighted the remarkable accomplishments of six students who represented Duluth at this prestigious event, which attracted over 11,000 competitors.
Among the honorees, Lily Ortman, a 2024 Duluth East graduate, earned second place in the International Home Health Aid Competition and received the Barbara Johnson Service Award for her commitment to community service. Other students, including Brandon Flagg and Evan Boteuse from Denfeld High School, also showcased their talents, with Evan qualifying for the international competition in public service announcement.
These achievements not only reflect the individual talents of the students but also underscore the quality of healthcare education and leadership development within Duluth schools. The board expressed gratitude to their advisor, Kim Olson, for her support and guidance, emphasizing the importance of these accomplishments in inspiring future generations of healthcare professionals in the community.
The meeting also included the approval of the agenda and a pledge of allegiance, setting a collaborative tone for the evening. As the board continues to recognize and celebrate student achievements, the community can take pride in the dedication and success of its young leaders.
